[edit] Character
Brian "Bomber" Busbridge was a fictional character from the British television series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. Portrayed by Pat Roach, he featured in series 1-4 from 1983-2004. A bricklayer by trade, Bomber also works intermittently as a nightclub bouncer.
Bomber joins the other main characters in West Germany in the first episode, leaving behind his wife Patsy and five children in Bristol. His eldest daughter Tracey makes a brief appearance in the first series after running away from home, eventually turning up at the building site in Germany, while Bomber has briefly returned home to support his wife.
In the third series, it is revealed that Bomber's wife has died, and that he has become a grandfather. He also has ongoing health issues and is on medication, although this is never discussed in detail on the show.
The 'gentle giant' of the group, and its oldest member, Bomber's quiet authority is rarely questioned and he often steps in as peacemaker when arguments break out amongst the group.
[edit] Trivia
Pat Roach is a former professional wrestler, 'Bomber' being a nickname he used during his sports career. He has a tattoo bearing this name - this can be seen in the opening credits to the second series, which featured footage from World of Sport's wrestling coverage of Pat Roach's wrestling career.
