After a couple of years of looking through Wikipedia, I have come to the following conclusions about it:
1) It is a valuable source for pop culture information
2) It is virtually useless for anything involving political, religious, or historical matters due to items 3 & 4
3) Wikipedia is ruled by those who can live on the internet, and it becomes a tyranny of the "vocal" minority. Thus, the entries are skewed in the direction desired by those who can spend the most time online chain-editing entries, vandal-editing, and engaging in rampant revisions of articles based not on expertise, but their own prejudices and preconceived ideas. Thus, the information presented is not accurate information, but the information put forth by the victors of edit-wars, who invariably are those with an agenda and few, if any, more worthwhile endeavors to keep them occupied.
4) Wikipedia has often been referred to as "the largest collection of self-proclaimed intellectuals on unemployment in the world", and while I would add "and hordes of video-game-obsessed pedantic social reprobates with the manners of a boorish offal-shoveler" to that, I have to admit that there is a distinct and definitive bias pervading Wikipedia that leans hard to the left. A true encyclopedia should remain unbiased, and due to its inability to remain so, to uphold its Utopian ideology of NPOV, Wikipedia fails in that goal.
Despite all of this, as I mentioned above, Wikipedia DOES have its uses, but caveat emptor is the word of the day when dealing with it.
Tá beagán Gaeilge agam. Is iad na deacrachtaí is mó atá agamsa ag foghlaim na Gaeilge ná easpa cúrsaí anseo i Meiriceá. 我講一些漢語 , me hablo muy poco español, und ich spreche sehr Deutsches wenig.
