From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Leonid Brezhnev. Caption below original image:

"I have always been and shall remain the Party's loyal soldier, a loyal fighter for the cause of the working people, for the happiness and prosperity of our motherland, for peace and communism."

The image was an official portrait of Brezhnev and is therefore public domain as it is a government image.

[edit] Rationale

This is the publicity image, an official portrait of the Soviet leader released by the Soviet government organization, now a non-existing entity, to represent a leader of the country to the world. The subject of the article is not alive and taking a free image of him is impossible. The image is not only unrepeatable but also irreplaceable my a generic image that would merely show how the person looked like. This is the official image that shows not just the appearance of the subject but how he and the authority wanted him to be represented.
