Brewster is a village located in the Town of Southeast in Putnam County, New York, United States. The population was 2,162 at the 2000 census. The ZIP code for all of Brewster, NY is 10509. The name comes from Walter and James Brewster, farmers who owned land where the village is located.
The Village of Brewster is the most densely populated portion of the township.
Former Mayor John Cesar (1918-2006) was known in recent years as New York State's oldest elected official before being defeated for reelection in 2005 by John Degnan.

Brewster is located at (41.396050, -73.615954)[1].
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.2 km²), all of it land.
However, outside of the village there are many reservoirs, which supply parts of NYC.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 2,162 people, 840 households, and 441 families residing in the village. The population density was 4,544.0 people per square mile (1,739.1/km²). There were 881 housing units at an average density of 1,851.6/sq mi (708.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 78.77% White, 5.37% African American, 0.37% Native American, 2.31% Asian, 11.66% from other races, and 1.53% from two or more races.
There were 840 households out of which 26.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 33.9% were married couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 47.4% were non-families. 34.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the village the population was spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 11.9% from 18 to 24, 41.4% from 25 to 44, 16.3% from 45 to 64, and 10.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 131.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 128.4 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $42,750, and the median income for a family was $48,393. Males had a median income of $28,793 versus $28,929 for females. The per capita income for the village was $21,865. About 9.0% of families and 14.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.4% of those under age 18 and 12.1% of those age 65 or over.

- Brewster gained national exposure in the 1960s when it was used as the setting of fictional character Ann Marie's hometown on the sitcom That Girl. During the 19th century, Brewster, and the surrounding town of Southeast were home to the early American Circus. In 1864, Gail Borden built his Milk Condensery on the Croton River in the Village.
