Brentwood Science Magnet School serves Grades K-5 and draws 1,212 children. Their scientific atmosphere creates an excitement for learning through discovery and stimulates the students to apply the critical and creative thinking required in science to other areas of study. Brentwood Science Magnet School is particularly suited as a science magnet by virtue of its geographic proximity to the ocean and academic and industrial science facilities with all their human and physical resources essential to a science curriculum. They have 4 different science labs in which students learn Biological Science, Physical Science, Earth Science and Computer Technology.

Brentwood's students are quite diverse. 37% are White, 21% are Hispanics,19% are Asians,18% are African-American,3% Filipino, and 2% other. 60% of the students come from homes where English is not spoken. The most common languages the children speak are Korean, Spanish, Russian, and Persian.
[edit] Academic Challenge
Brentwood has an academic challenge which students in grades 3-5 may voluntarily join. They will take part in delivering a speech, taking a reading test, a math test, a history/geography test, a spelling bee, and a "Super Quiz" where students in a group will take 10 science questions read aloud. If a student achieves 80% in a subject, they will receive a medal. The top scorer will get the Steven Award .
