"Break It to Me Gently" was an R&B hit for Aretha Franklin in 1977. Released from the Sweet Passion album, it reached number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart in June, 1977. It was not very successful on the Billboard Hot 100, however, peaking only at number 85. It would be the last hit song for Franklin while at Atlantic Records.
