Rancho Guajome is a historic house and landmark located in Guajome County Park in Vista, California. It has been officially designated as both a California Historical Landmark and a National Registered Historic Place.
[edit] History
The area that became Rancho Guajome was originally territory administered by Mission San Luis Rey de Francia. The missions were eventually secularized, and on July 19, 1845, Governor Pío Pico granted 2,219.4 acres to Andrés and José Manuel, two Luiseño Indians who had been neophytes at San Luis Rey. The land grant was named Rancho Guajome, from the Luiseño word wakhavumi, meaning "frog pond". The brothers later sold the land to Abel Stearns
