"The Shock of the New" is an episode of the science fiction television series, Mutant X. It is the first episode of the first season, originally airing October 6, 2001. In the episode, Adam Kane and his team of New Mutants known as Mutant X are introduced. Mason Eckhart is introduced as the main antagonist, setting up the Genetic Security Agency for the detection and capture of New Mutants. This episode is considered the first of two parts, with the second part in the episode to follow, I Scream the Body Electric.
