[edit] Production
The Thick of It ran for a series of six episodes on BBC Four in 2005 and three specials in 2007. The first series followed cabinet minister Hugh Abbott (Chris Langham), who struggled with the pressures of running a government department while trying to avoid confrontation with the Prime Minister's spin doctor Malcolm Tucker (Capaldi). Following Langham's arrest for downloading child pornography, the focus of the series shifted to Tucker, the opposition and minor players in the Prime Minister's party.
Iannucci announced In the Loop at the 2007 Cheltenham Literature Festival, where he immediately distinguished it from The Thick of It. The TV series' writers all signed on to script In the Loop.
In March 2008 the UK Film Council awarded the film's production team with £48,825 from the National Lottery Development fund.[1]

Optimum Releasing will release In the Loop to British cinemas in 2009. Protagonist Pictures sold worldwide distribution at Cannes.
