[edit] Common name should be just "Tapir"

This species has a range that includes at least five countries besides Brazil. My vote is to move the page to Tapir and redirect from Brazilian tapir. This will have to be done carefully so as not to create a closed circle of redirects. Also, the name "anta" in Portuguese refers to the female; the male is "tapir." --Wloveral (talk) 02:52, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Could you explain your reasoning further? The species is commonly known as the Brazilian tapir (at least in many areas outside of Brazil, where I would assume it's just a regular tapir)- regardless of the actual scope of the range - and it would seem odd to me to redirect this species to tapir since it is not the only species, and the other three types of tapir have their own articles. Addendum: Maybe the article could be retitled "Lowland Tapir" (which currently redirects here)? I don't know if worldwide that's a more / equally prevalent name, but if so, that change would seem appropriate to me. - Sasha Kopf (talk) 05:28, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
