Which part of the government rejected the Legal and General and Allied London Properties proposal? Mr. Jones 16:08, 13 Mar 2004 (UTC)
I believe it was deputy prime minister John Prescott. He believed that there were already too many shopping facilities in the local area (Readings' Oracle etc.). I'm not certain though, and I haven't been able to verify this so I didn't include it.
Anybody know where White Whitfield is?. The only references I can find to it by googling are clearly copies of this article. Chris j wood 01:55, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Too many links?
Do we have too many links here, eg. for the individual estates? I mean, I live here, but even I don't think Great Hollands is encyclopedia-worthy. Speaking of which, would an Easthampstead Park School article be OK to make or disregarded as too insignificant? -- Gatta
I agree! Also Hanworth links to the London suburb in the London Borough of Hounslow which could confuse. Pt1234 15:32, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
I don't have a problem with the number of links on the Bracknell page, I've just added one more for Warfield which is where I live. Bracknell (or at least, Bracknell Forest) is a large place consisting of many small parishes. Someone from another part of the planet might need to find out more detail about Bracknell. However maybe Warfield should feature in the Windsor, Berkshire page because that's where its parliamentary constituency is now (Warfield is < 1 mile from Bracknell Town Centre, 8 miles from Windsor, go figure).--Andrew McKay 05:55, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Reference for tobacco claims
Does anybody have references or citations for this paragraph?
- In 2004, research into smoking habits in Britain by the consultancy firm CACI found that, on average, Bracknell's inhabitants spent less money on cigarettes each year than people from any other area of the country. However, it is thought that it is because the residents are using so many illegal drugs such as heroin and cocaine that they simply do not get the reqouistie hit from tobacco.
--Scott Davis Talk 03:44, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
- The illegal drugs bit has to be a troll, and should be deleted. Don't get me wrong, Bracknell isn't heaven on earth, but I don't think the logic of that paragraph is right. There are plenty of other potential reasons for the low tobacco consumption, from an equally controversial "they're all on the dole and cant afford 'baccy" to "They're well educated, and are aware of the risks of tobacco smoking". So, I think that removing the 'However, it is thought' line, and adding a citation needed bit would make sense. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.210.57.169 (talk • contribs) .
Thankyou. Bracknell is far enough from me that for all I knew, that "It is thought..." had been front page of several national newspapers. --Scott Davis Talk 13:22, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] St. Michael's
I reverted edits by 86.129.207.192 on Revision as of 15:39, September 26, 2006 because I could not tell if it was vandalism or inexperienced editing. First, the information on references was deleted, but this could have been by mistake. Second, if St. Michaels is a school in Bracknell, your addition should look like this: *[[St. Michaels]]. Third, the only school by that name in Bracknell that I found on the "Welcome to Bracknell" website was a nursery school. If this is the school you want to reference, your addition should look like this: *[[St. Michael's Nursery]]. The listing will be appear in red until someone (and by someone, I am suggesting you) creates an article titled St. Michael's Nursery. Cynrin 19:58, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- St Michael's is a large Church of England primary school in Easthamptead, Bracknell. A list of all the schools can be downloaded from [1]. The other schools listed though are the town's four secondary schools, and there are a total of 14 primary schools. So it is probably not logical just to list St Michael's in the primaries. There is an associated St Michaels nursery school but it probably doesn't deserve its own artice. Dsergeant 06:07, 27 September 2006 (UTC) (Bracknell resident for many years)
[edit] Bill Hill
I've added a reference to Bill Hill under the history section.

[edit] Arts
On the subject of Bracknell in films: The machine hall at ICL (now Fujitsu) in Lovelace Road was used in a film. At the time it was the largest computer hall in Europe, though has since been subdivided. Can anyone remember the name of the film? I though it might be Billion Dollar Brain, but this was released in 1967 and I think the site opened in 1971. No success so far in scouring the Web.Pterre 12:21, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Hospital
217.44.22.56 added a new paragraph about the lack of a local hospital in Bracknell. That is indeed true, and there have been campaigns for many years to address the issue and also the decline in services at Heatherwood hospital. However I suspect it is outside the scope of WP to have more than a brief mention, and a link to a petition on the Downing Street site is obviously outside the scope of an encyclopedia. I suggest it is deleted. Dsergeant (talk) 18:03, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- I removed it, not only because it was obviously campaigning, but also because it was written in appalling English. I've made some other edits too, mostly for stylistic reasons, but also to add some new information and links. Hope nobody minds. --Alex Craven (talk) 02:38, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
