Brandon Herman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brandon Herman (born 1983, Hillsborough, CA) is a young, contemporary artist based in Los Angeles, CA that works primarily in photography but, in recent exhibitions, has begun to show sculpture and video work as well.
His pieces are evocative in their exploration of nostalgia and longing, a visual intersection between fantasy, memory, and the mainstream media. The photographs are often brightly lit, the colors - over saturated, yet the undertone is, at times, very dark, hinting at an underlying sadness or even impending doom. Sexual elements are pervasive throughout the scope of his work.
Herman's most recent sculptural piece is a 6' tall fiberglass cartoon cat head, a three dimensional translation of an image he has tattooed on his leg.
Noteworthy recent exhibitions include a solo show entitled 'My Vacation With A Kidnapper' at Envoy Gallery (New York, NY) and inclusion in a group show at Galerie Griesmar et Tamer (Paris). Brandon is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, and his work has been featured in Anthem, Artforum, Celeste, Dazed and Confused, Eyemazing, Flaunt, H Magazine, NY Arts Magazine, Soma, Tokion, V Magazine, and Vice.
