Brades (or Brades Estate) (approx. pop. 1,000) is the de facto capital of Montserrat, and is in the Carr's Bay/Little Bay vicinity at the northwest end of Montserrat. The official capital Plymouth has been abandoned since 1997 due to the eruption of Soufriere Hills volcano. Afterwards, interim government buildings were built at Brades.
