The Ashley in this article is the wrong one; the Test Valley is not part of the South East Dorset Conurbation. I suspect either Ashley Heath or Ashley near New Milton is intended. Either way it should probably be in the second list, for areas adjoining the conurbation. Britmax 11:17, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move

Lewisskinner (talk ยท contribs) moved this article, without discussion, and along with several other articles, because, according to the edit summary, "official name, please see [1] line 2092 for info".

As the revised article makes clear "Bournemouth urban area" is not the "official name" of the area, as different organisations, government departments and local government use different names. The Office for National Statistics is the government's agency for demographic and economic statistics, it is not the government agency for naming settlements, and has no more of a claim to the "officialdom" than the Highways Agency, Audit Commission or the borough councils. Therefore, as per the reversal of the move of West Midlands conurbation, and no doubt several others, I propose we move this page back to its original location, which is the most used term, as gauged by Google results:

  • "South East Dorset Conurbation": 2010
  • "Poole/Bournemouth Conurbation": 1620
  • "Bournemouth Urban Area": 685
  • "South Dorset Conurbation": 331

I can understand the reasons why this change has been reverted. I think there needs to be some clarification between articles about Geography and Economic Geography like there is between Geography and Political Geography.
