AWM Caption: Bougainville. 30 March 1945. 2/4th Armoured Regiment Australian-manned Matilda tanks advancing along Buin Road over Slater's Knoll, towards the Hongorai River. They are supported by 25 Infantry Battalion troops and a bulldozer. This is the first time tanks have been used in the Bougainville campaign.
