[edit] Vegetarians

When reverting the addition of Category:American vegetarians (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) to the article on Matt Zimmerman (technologist) you said, "please read description of categories before adding them to articles - an article has to actually talk about the category subject." Which description are you talking about? There is no description at all on.

I'm happy to add, "Matt Zimmerman is a vegetarian," (or something to that effect) to the article but that seems a bit silly silly. Most vegetarians are not particularly notable for their vegetarianism. Rather, it's simply a fact about their eating habits and vegetarianism is not a defining characteristic. This article has already been proposed for deletion on these grounds and it surivived. —mako (talkcontribs) 14:08, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Saw your response with a reference to Wikipedia:Categorization and will go ahead start a conversation on the talk page for the guideline. That suggestion simply does not make sense for this particular category. How about Category:People from Philadelphia (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) or Category:Filipino Americans (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) or any of the thousands of categories like them? People are not usually famous for being of a race, of a religion, or from a place but we still have categories for this. This was discussed on the deletion page I mentioned before and the category was kept.
Would you be happy with a short addition of "Matt is a vegetarian" or something to that effect in the content of the article? —mako (talkcontribs) 21:22, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
