Bordeaux AOC

The Bordeaux AOC or Bordeaux generic is the most important and most sold of all Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) of Bordeaux wine. All other AOCs inside the Bordeaux area, including the most prestigious ones, are entitled to produce under this AOC. The quality rules and specifications of this AOC are made by the INAO institute.

Yearly production: 250,000,000 litres
Area: 109,000 acres (440 km²)
Maximal authorized yield: 2200 litres per acre.
[edit] Grape varieties
The most planted grapes are Cabernet sauvignon and Merlot. Cabernet franc is not as common but also authorized. Petit Verdot and Malbec are scarce.
