[edit] Failed Good Article nomination

I feel that the article in its current state does not meet Good Article criteria for the following reasons:

  1. The lead section needs improvement; see WP:LEAD for guidance
  2. The Family and early life setion is very confusing, especially the first paragraph. It just generally needs to be reworded in a manner that focuses more on the subject (Bolli Bollason). For example, it should have started out by mentioning when he was born and to whom, before going into the story about his father's death.

I will say that the article is well-sourced with ample inline citations, which is an excellent start (and too rare on Wikipedia). It just needs some work to make it more readible. --JerryOrr 02:09, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

I would have thought putting it on hold was the more usual approach in a case like this, but I will renominate it once these concerns have been addressed. Thanks! --Grimhelm 17:30, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
I suppose the criteria for hold vs fail is pretty subjective… my thought is that if it's something that would take more than 15 minutes or so to correct, I fail it. Others may only fail articles with serious problems. I don't think it really matters much; it's not difficult to renominate it, and doesn't take long to pass it once it's been corrected. --JerryOrr 20:20, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
I have made the appropriate changes as requested. Would you pass this if it were renominated? --Grimhelm 17:27, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
As far as I can tell, this also omits the events of the Bollaþáttur, which ought to be remedied on grounds of completeness. Choess 04:15, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Well, the saga is the main source for his life, and is probably more reliable than the þáttur as it was written closer to the actual events. The Penguin edition cited includes the Bollaþáttur as well as the saga, but if you feel there is anything in particular which needs to be added than by all means go ahead. --Grimhelm 17:03, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

The article looks good now; I've passed it for GA status. --JerryOrr 22:03, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

It's well-written, but I think especially the first paragraph states his exploits as undeniable historical fact - which they are not. --dllu 18:15, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
