Contrary to what I've read here on blue mud daubers, I have seen that, given a particularly muddy area, a blue mud dauber will fly about for some time in a careful "search". Then it will land on an area of mud, "scoop" up little balls of it, and fly away. After several minutes (I don't know, I was busy building a pond) the mud dauber will return.
