Although this album contained their best charting single "Too Much Passion", Blow Up is generally perceived by both fans and critics alike as a lukewarm follow up to their previous effort. While still solid by Smithereens standards, some found the single "Top of The Pops" to be too similar to "A Girl Like You" and found the edge of previous albums to be missing. The less than enthusiatic reception to this album would unfortunately be a harbringer of things to come. Ironically, the group who was one of Kurt Cobain's biggest influences was about to be done in by the Grunge scene they helped inspire.
