Block Party is the seventh studio album by American rapper-songwriter Missy Elliott, scheduled to be released on August 26, 2008[1] in the United States. It will feature production by Timbaland, Danja, Swizz Beatz, T-Pain, DJ Toomp, and The Arkitects.
Rolling Stone reports the album will feature "fun-for-the-club" beats, though Elliott tells that she and Timbaland are "trying different stuff, just going in blind and hoping that people will be with it."[2] Elliott told Entertainment Weekly she and Timbaland are "always gonna take it as far left as possible without losing people or having them thinking we're on drugs."[3]
As far as guests, Elliott has been mum on details. However, she also told Entertainment Weekly Keyshia Cole is a "fo' sho" and she's "quite sure T-Pain's gonna jump on the track he's producing."[4]
On January 9, 2008, Elliott's official website announced the release of "Ching-a-Ling" as lead single for soundtrack of Step Up 2 the Streets, also confirming that the track will feature on the upcoming studio album.[5]
Initially Elliott held a contest for fans to name the album and decided to dedicate it to her fans due to so many people taking part, saying she wanted to spell it with "F-A-N" in the album name.[6] However the album's title has since been confirmed to be Block Party.[7]
Stylistically, the music is said to be a continuation of "Elliott's trademark eclectic beats mixed with tinges of '70s Washington D.C. go-go funk."
"Best, Best" is slated to be the first single from the album.[8]
