Dewalt is a registered trademark of Black and Decker, first created between 1966-1968 as a new professional line of portable power tools (they introduced a line of heavy duty radial arm saws). So to answer your question yes Dewalt was created by Black and Decker. Tim 01/23/2006

Black and Decker didn't create Dewalt. Dewalt was a seperate power tool company. It was purchased by Black and Decker in the early 90's or so. Actually Dewalt was purchased by B&D in 1960. At that time they made only radial arm saws. Sometime in the late '70's or early '80's B&D decided to get out of the radial arms saw business, eventually selling to two former exceutives in 1985. [1]

Then in the early '90's B&D needed to rebrand their professional (high end) power tools to differentiate them from the lower end Black & Decker tools. They decided to use the Dewalt name that had been on the shelf for a number of years. Paulinct (talk) 06:09, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
