Blas is BBC Radio Ulster’s lively Irish language magazine programme which can be heard every weeknight at 7pm. Each evening Blas gives listeners a 30- minute programme with special guests and performances, chat, craic, news, reviews, previews and views in general. Presented by Lynette Fay, Karen Kirby and Eoghan Ó Néill, the programme features everything from schools, sport and science to music, entertainment and current affairs. Put simply, Blas covers every subject, the only difference is that it does it through the medium of Irish.
Each year Blas gets out and about and visits linguistic, cultural and community events throughout Northern Ireland and beyond, including The William Kennedy Piping Festival in Armagh, The Open House festival in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter and Oireachtas na Gaeilge. The programme prides itself on its work with schools with the annual Gael- Linn public speaking competition, Abair.
Lynette Fay says: “Blas gives BBC Radio Ulster listeners a sense of just how alive the Irish language and culture is here in Northern Ireland and that Irish speakers have a great time of it."
“Tugaimid tacaíocht d’eagrais Ghaeilge, do mhúinteoirí Gaeilge do phobal labhartha na Gaeilge ó thuaidh agus dóibh siúd a bhfuil dúil acu sa teanga. Riarann BLAS ar achan bhlas.”
Karen and Lynette present Blas on Mondays and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 7pm. Eoghan Ó Néill presents the programme on Wednesday nights at 7pm.
Karen Kirby also presents The Late Show every Saturday night at 10pm.
Lynette Fay also presents An Domhnach Mór/Big Sunday during the GAA Championship Season.
