The Black Weir is the first weir on the Ross River coming from the Ross River Dam and was built by the then Thuringowa Council, however the Weir in now located in the City of Townsville. The weir was built in the 1930's and in 1934 it was upgraded due to damage during a flood.

It took until 1936 to fill and at that time, only gave a few years supply of water, Black Weir is now used for a large amount of water sports and fishing.[1]
