I don't think the Skoda 9.45 can be called unsuccessful. This gun demonstrated that a heavy field howitzer was a practical proposition. These howitzers were purchased for use in the Boer War to reduce the Boer forts around pretoria, Pretoria was captured before they arrived. They were then sent to China for use against Tien Sien, again the war was over. In WW1 9.2 has to be thought of as a 'companion'to 8in How, production was set at 3 9.2 for every 5 8in. However by 1939 there were still 96 9.2 but only a couple of dozen 8 in.
