[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sh2.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Sh2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 02:07, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] April 2008

Please do not add inappropriate images to Wikipedia, as you did to Demi Lovato; it is considered to be vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. NrDg 03:56, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

can you tell me what was inappropriate??
It was not a free use image as required to illustrate a bio article. See WP:IUP and WP:FUC for more details. The release you placed on the picture restricted it to non-commercial use only which also means we can't use it and the release was invalid anyway as the web site did not own the copyright to that picture so can't give a release. The picture is from a photoshoot and the website just put the picture up, they don't own it. Basically any picture you find on the web is extremely unlikely to be usable in a bio article. What we want are pictures you took with your own camera or pictures where the photographer has explicitly released it for free use. Some pictures on flickr sometimes are released that way. We appreciate your efforts to find a picture, but copyright is a touchy area for wiki so we have to be careful. --NrDg 04:14, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Demi Lovato

I also removed the Forbes information. You did a good cite but you can't copy text from the reference. You have to use your own words or indicate it is a quote. Also that web site is not classed as being reliable so the reference can't be used. See WP:RS. There are lots of other sources for that info that do meet the reliable source requirement. --NrDg 04:14, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

The changes you made are better in that you didn't just copy text. The reference you used is still a problem as fan-sites are not reliable sources of informaition and can't be used. The Disney Fan Club is not officially part of Disney. They explicitely state "This site is not a part of the main Disney Channel. This is just a Fan Site". You need a better reference for the information such as http://www.forbes.com/home/media/2008/04/09/entertainment-disney-lovato-biz-media-cx_lr_0409kidstars.html. Also this info better belongs in the career section of the article, not the lead paragraph. --NrDg 04:40, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
