[edit] Nasty template should not include DEFAULTSORT
This nasty template should not include a magic word DEFAULTSORT which works on other categories. It isn't visible, isn't known to have that effect, isn't clear what needs to be done to fix the inevitable sorting errors created by those using this template. Gene Nygaard 23:30, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. This template also assumes that a missing year of birth means that theperson is living. Also, one has to enter the defaultsort in this template, too, or it won't sort correctly. No-one should use this template. -- LarRan (talk) 22:00, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

- The hidden DEFAULTSORT is not fixed. But you or someone else should be required to go and manually add it to the articles from which it has been deleted. Just removing it from the template, something which should be done, will create new problems. Gene Nygaard (talk) 14:52, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Concur with Gene Nygaard. If the template is used without a third parameter, it sets the default sort key to something beginning with "{" (I presume "{{{3}}}", literally). In its current form, the template is unusable. (Not to mention that I cannot see the point at all anyway. Is there any Wikipedian out there for whom it is difficult to spell out those two category names?) KissL 11:34, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
I counted over 2,500 articles that have this template. We have to decide if we need to fix it or delete it before the number grows. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:47, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see the point of this template, it doesn't add any functionality (are people really that lazy?) and adds confusion (to defaultsort or not to defaultsort). Also, what's the difference between this and {{lifetime}}? --Closedmouth (talk) 12:57, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- Now it's locked and I can't propose it for deletion. -- Magioladitis (talk) 13:05, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

What do I do here? CarbonLifeForm (talk) 13:23, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
{{editprotected}} Propose template for deletion since it's confusing and a similar template, {{lifetime}} already exists. Magioladitis (talk) 13:07, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- Given the large number of transclusions, a merge would make much more sense than deletion. But it's not a particularly pressing issue. If you would like to develop and propose the code for the merge, please feel free. — Carl (CBM · talk) 13:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- I have nominated the article for deletion so a discussion to be made. Check: Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2008 January 30. I think what you have to do is to place my tag so that people participate in the discussion. -- Magioladitis (talk) 18:26, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
