Birchville is a suburb of Upper Hutt, New Zealand on the North Island. It lies on the foothills of the Akatarawa Valley in the north of the city. It was developed around 1980 and was known for the number of units erected.The streets are named after gemstones (e.g. Amber Grove, Moonstone Grove)and the main road running roughly West-East is named Gemstone Drive. It is about a 10 minute drive from the City of Upper Hutt. Stop banks have been built to pervent flooding and it is possible to walk along these. The Birchville community is bounded by a valley.
