Bio-plate

Used in machine pressing, neurosurgery and biometrics, a bio-plate or bio-template, is a stored biological template, identifying unique, intrinsic physical features, such as face, fingerprint, iris, retina or hand. In machine pressing, a cast of organic material is a bio-template. In neurosurgery, the bio-template is the original body part.
In biometric authentication (biometrics) for computers, the bio-template is a pattern or a mathematical description of physical features, typically fingerprints or irises. The pattern or algorithm is from key characteristic measurements of the features. Common characteristics used for this purpose are the ridges and bifurcations of the pad of the finger. These characteristics are minutiae points.
The Minutiae Interoperability Exchange Test by the National Institute of Standards and Technology shows that bio-templates are highly accurate alternatives to full fingerprint images.
