I'm just getting the ball rolling for someone... I'm not terribly knowledgable about this show, so I just filled in what I could.

[edit] The Yamada sisters in debt?

"Their mother died the same year she gave birth to Asu and their father ran away, leaving them with a large gambling debt."

Are they really in debt? I know they are poor, but that's not the same thing as owing someone money. As far as I know, we are only told that their father left because of a large gambling debt, not that he left it to them. - x-Flare-x 00:32, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Good point. It's never said outright in the anime and you never see any bill collectors - except for the building's owner.

Maybe what happened was that the house and/or all the assets were taken as payment for the gambling debts? ~Rockpendemic
