"marking the first time a columnist was syndicated in gay papers"?

I think this is way off. Bob Damron, (who started the popular Damron's Guide gay travel and entertainment guide books) had a gay travel column, "Bob Damron Does America" back in the 70's or 80's.

I think that phrase should be removed, unless it can be supported or further qualified.
