Talk:Billy Higgins
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Billy regularly appeared at New York's Village Vanguard w/ Cedar Walton during Christmas week or the week after. To me, there was nothing more New York than seeing these quintessential jazzers doing their thing at the holidays. In December 1998, I met the woman that would become my wife, and for our second date I took her to the Village Vanguard to experience this for herself. After the performance she commented, "Who was the drummer? He smiled throughout the entire performance?" That was Billy Higgins! That smile. The way he'd jut his jaw in time to the music with his mouth open. That delicate touch on the cymbal. You could tell he simply loved playing the drums. And his cymbal rhythm was infectious, a merciless, hard driving, close triplet feel punctuated with snare and bass drum hits on the up-beats yet with that clave' rhythm pulsing throughout. He is sorely missed in the jazz world.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.115.231.210 (talk • contribs) 18:09, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
