Bill Carney is an Australian local politician and barrister. He was elected to Strathfield Municipality Council in 2004 and has served as mayor of municipality since January 2005.

He graduated from the University of Sydney in 1982, and became a solicitor for three years. In 1986, he joined the bar and set up his own chambers in Sydney. Carney has worked for the Department of Public Prosecutions and in a wide array of civil and criminal cases.[1]

Carney was the Liberal candidate for the electoral district of Strathfield in the 2007 New South Wales State election.[2] He received 27% of the primary vote against the sitting member, and former mayor of Strathfield herself, Virginia Judge.[3]
