Big Walnut Middle School is the only middle school currently located in the Big Walnut Local School District (located in Sunbury, Ohio). Originally a high school built in 1967 with grades 9-12, it now holds classes of grades 6-8.

Big Walnut Middle School currently has a tennis, track, football, dance, cheerleading, baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, rugby, and wrestling team.

BWMS has 6, 7th, and 8 grade bands, directed by Chris Lawless. In addition, BWMS has choirs in grades 6-8, each directed by Justin Heck.
