Big Mamma (Card Game)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Big Mamma is a card game usually with 2 players that was invented in Long Island, New York, by Edward Hemp and Matia Eichler.
THE DEAL
Players sit opposite of each other and a standard 52 card pack is dealt in half between the players.
Each player deals 5 cards in separate piles in front of him or her and holds the rest of the cards.
THE PLAY
The player to the dealers left goes first. He or she selects one of the 5 piles in front of him or her. The other players turn up the same pile of theirs respectively. The cards are compared in value Ace being the highest(suits do not matter). The highest of the players wins the hand and puts the cards won into his or her held pile. After the turn is done, 1 more card is placed on top of each of the existing ones. If there is a blank pile then a card is still put in its place. The play remains the same. The player next to the previous one now picks a pile and turns all the cards up. The cards are compared according to value. If there is a case of more than one card in a pile the following happens.
The highest value card in each players pile is compared to that of all the others.
Example:
Player One: 8 of hearts,10 of clubs.
Player Two: jack of spades,3 of clubs
The jack would take the 10 and the 8 would take the 3.
BIG MAMMA AND THE NUKE
The queen of hearts is "Big Mamma". If at ANY time Big Mamma comes into play somehow the player that controls her automatically takes all the cards in play. This includes all piles created so that the only cards are the ones in the players hands. The rest go to the winning player with the "Big Mamma". Once Big Mamma is played she is removed from the game.
The King of hearts is "The Nuke". This card has a similar effect to that of Big Mamma. If a player turns up The Nuke all cards in play including all piles are removed from the game. Like the Big Mamma, the nuke is removed from play as well once it is played.
BATTLES
Battles Occur when while comparing values of cards, two of the same card contradict each other. in this case all cards are picked up except the other cards in the pile with the battling card and the card itself. The two battling cards are put facing each other and three cards are dealt on top of it from each players draw pile. One by one each card is turned up and compared with the other by value and suits do not matter. The person who wins the most battles gets all the cards used in the battle and also the original piles in which the battling cards were in.
NOTE: If Big Mamma and or The Nuke turn up in a battle they are just played a regular king and queen. Their special effect does not happen in battles.
Play continues until one person has all the cards. They are the Winner.
