Bharat Desai

Bharat Desai is a billionaire Indian entrepreneur. He is the Chairman and CEO of Syntel (NASDAQ: SYNT), a global provider of Information Technology and Knowledge Process Outsourcing services, headquartered in Troy, Michigan.
Bharat co-founded Syntel in 1980 and today, it is the “Partner of Choice” for many of the best known brands in the Global 2000. As of March 2008, Syntel employs over 12,000 people globally and has a market capitalization in excess of $1 billion.
Bharat was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business and won the IIT Alumnus of the Year award from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. He was also the recipient of the Michigan Entrepreneur Award from the Harvard Business School and recognized as Entrepreneur Of the Year by USA Today and NASDAQ.
Desai is a Board Member of several educational institutions, including the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) and the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
Bharat holds an MBA in finance from Stephen M. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai, India.
Bharat Desai and his wife were ranked #286 in the 2007 Forbes 400 list, with an estimated net worth of $1.7 billion US dollars.
