The "trivia" remark of "one unlucky patron to lose $34,000" is about the most insulting comment I've seen on wikipedia. How about the horse that died? The $34,000 was wagered- it was put in for a risk with a good chance at it being lost. And indeed the bettor/punter failed to collect regardless if the horse came in last or failed to finish.
