Betty Shamieh

Betty Shamieh is a Palestinian-American playwright, author, screenwriter and actor. She is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area, and is currently a mentor and professor at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City.
Shamieh is a graduate of Harvard University and the Yale School of Drama, and has authored 15 plays.
With the 2004 premiere of Roar, a drama about a Palestinian family that was honored as a New York Times Critics Pick for four consecutive weeks, she became the first Palestinian-American to have a play premiere off-Broadway.
