Betameche is a fictional character in Luc Besson's "Arthur and the Minimoys" movie and also in the book of the same name. He is a little prince and is the son of the king and brother of the former Selénia. He is one of the main characters on Arthur and the Minimoys.

[edit] Role in story
Betameche is the first Minimoy Arthur meets when he enters the Minimoy world and it is he who introduces him to the great Minimoy council. Unlike his sister, the haughty Princess Selenia he seems to take an instant shine to Arthur. He accompanies Selenia and Arthur on their journey to Necropolis to retrieve the treasure of the Minimoys from the Evil M, serving as a comical foil to his sister. When Betameche and Selenia arrive at Malthazard's stronghold he is captured along with Arthur by Darkos and thrown in the dungeons where they meet Arthur's grandfather, Archibald. Betameche later escapes with Arthur and Selenia and shakes Arthur's hand enthusiastically before Arthur returns to the human world.

Betameche is enthusiastic, flippant and precocious. Despite his usually optimistic demeanour he is a constant complainer and is incessantly thinking about food and sleep. Due to his fondness for food Betameche is somewhat overweight which means he gets tired easily. He is however very loyal and determined and follows Selenia and Arthur to the very end of their journey. He is also quite vain about his appearance, particularly his hair. Betameche has a somewhat irreverant approach to life and enjoys making fun of his proud sister Selenia, who usually has a retort to everything he says.
[edit] Betameche's pellet knife
Betameche carries a handheld pellet knife wherever he goes which despite it's small size has a seemingly endless variety of functions. As well as being a knife it also has the ability to deploy scissors, a lightsabre (a reference to Star Wars) and bizzarely, a bouquet of flowers. Ironically it does not contain a rope which Arthur comments might have come in handy when he, Selenia and Betameche were about to fall over a waterfall.
