Does anyone know the origin of the term "best boy"? For comparison, the article on "gaffer" includes a section on its Derivation.

[edit] Derivation of Best Boy

The title supposedly comes from the old studio days of Hollywood. When a Cameraman would hire a Gaffer to light a film, the Gaffer would walk into the Union Hall and say, "Give me your best boy for my second electician."

[edit] Widespread use of Best Boy Grip?

In Australia I haven't heard the term best boy grip used often, a best boy is usually only associated with the electrics/lighting dept. Is the usage of Best Boy Grip perhaps an American one? Do other countries use it frequently? Scotth1 14:33, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Best Girl

I saw a film credit where Best Girl was used, can't remember which movie though Pendragon39 04:35, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
