Robert Boyd "BertoChico", is Santa Barbara’s own premiere Flamenco guitarist/composer. He is one of the rare and few Americans who has dedicated his musical dreams and professional career to the art of Flamenco and is recognized as one of the top composers of Flamenco music in the United States. Born into a family of artists, which includes famed lead singer Brandon Boyd of the multi-platinum band Incubus, Robert began his musical training at age five and has been studying guitar for over 20 years. A rigorous musician and careful researcher, he has studied and performed in Spain and the U.S. with some of the world’s finest virtuosos such as: José Luis Rodriguez (former musical director for the Ballet of Cristina Hoyos), Guillermo Rios (former guitarist for the infamous Flamenco company of Jose Greco), Gerardo Nuñez, and the acclaimed Flamenco/Classical guitarist Adam Del Monte. Berto is the founder/musical director of “BertoFlamenco y Ritmo Gitano” which consists of a six-to-ten piece music and dance ensemble and is also the founder of Boyd Music Services, twenty of the finest guitarists and musicians in the U.S. Berto has shared the stage and co-directed in the annual 2006 Miami festival Flamenco in the Sun with Spanish maestro Jose Luis Rodriguez and Bailes Ferrer for the production of Calle Flamenca. Later that same year, he directed the productions Flamenco en Concierto, and Tarde Flamenca at the Unitarian Society in Santa Barbara and the infamous Fountain Theater in Hollywood; and, he was the musical director/guitarist for Carmen de Torres direct from Sevilla for a series of concerts and lectures at UCSB and a performance at the S.B. Festival of Art. The much awaited international instruction website, FlamencoGuitarClass.com created by Berto is due to release in early 2008 which will feature the award winning compositions by Jose Luis Rodriguez from Huelva, Spain. Other anticipated projects for 2008 is An Evening of Guitar, a PCPA Theaterfest production in Santa Maria, CA; and the release of his second CD currently being recorded in Hollywood.
