Gilbert 'Bert' Thornley (born September 3, 1942) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton in the VFL.

Thornley was recruited to Carlton from Western Australia and made his debut during the 1967 season. A rover, Thornley played in the 1970 VFL Grand Final and was the man replaced by eventual hero Ted Hopkins at half time. He finished his playing career at Preston in the VFA before becoming the coach of Torquay.
