The Berau people or Berau Malays live in Berau, in the north of East Kalimantan in Indonesia.
The Berau culture started since the Sultanate of Berau, like the other Islamic kingdoms in Kalimantan that includes Malays.[clarify]
According to the "Joshua Project", there are 20,000 Berau people.[citation needed]
