[edit] Biased
This article is heavily biaſed againſt Orthodox (Evangelical) criticiſm of Jowett. I will do what I can to fix it, be it by substituting weasel words or by including critics quotations.

[edit] translations
i regret that comment on jowett's translations is not included, as this is probably his main contemporary legacy. these were very influential through the early 20th century, were disparaged as theistic in the middle 20th century, but now, considered against the many "better translations" since then, are looking respectable again. many student editions of plato still use them.
jowett's significance in modern religious or literary studies is nil, and the favorable tone of the article seems, if anything, generous to his role as a scholar and pedagogue. but that is a judgment best left to jowett's students, and i'd guess a student wrote the article, not inappropriately.
the yelp above re evangelical bias strikes me as obviously misplaced. holding him as a target for yet more christian drive by hooliganism ... let's move on, please.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Macevoy (talk • contribs) 15:16, 17 June 2007
[edit] Timeline
Article says he was given a Fellowship in 1838 and graduated in 1839. Is this correct -- it would be very unusual to get a Fellowship before graduation. --ukexpat 17:31, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
