Description
English: Panama City, Florida. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, former U.S. Senator from the state of Colorado, delivers remarks at the commissioning ceremony for USS Mesa Verde (LPD-19). More than 3,000 guests were on hand for the ceremony. The ship is named after Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado, a significant archaeological and anthropological site that Congress established in 1906 as the first cultural park in the National Park Systems.
