Benevolent assimilation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Benevolent Assimilation was a proclamation issued on December 21, 1898 by U.S. President William McKinley to the Philippines.[1] It consisted of rules that would completely destroy all forms of Philippine culture in expression and rebellion.[citation needed]

The proclamation was later watered down, but then announced in the original form when an official declared repeated the speech in the Philippines, not knowing of the watered down copy.[citation needed]
