[edit] Old Belle Isle

I read that old Belle Isle originated around 1794 when Charles Brandling built a hamlet for some of the workers in his Middleton colliery. See "Leodis" website. Can anyone supply more info? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.131.28.51 (talk) 19:10, 21 October 2007 (UTC) There are some old photographs on Leodis site showing old Belle Isle scenes at Waterloo Cottages and the colliery railway and slag heaps. 10 February 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.148.240.78 (talk) 18:56, 10 February 2008 (UTC) The hamlet was situated near what is now the present day southern terminus of the railway, Park Halt. 29 February 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.150.175.165 (talk) 21:06, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
