An example of a code violation due to improper bounding. The wall and roof slab you see form part of a fire-resistance rated room (compartmentalisation) within a pulp and paper mill in Northern Ontario. The worker is a firestopper, who is sealing a building joint. The problem is that the steel beam has no fireproofing, which means that during a fire, the twisting and expanding beam can damage the wall, meaning that its fire-resistance rating equals ZERO...
