[edit] Site and Buildings

The school was founded in 1911, sharing a building at Bearsden Cross with Bearsden Primary School. This building is still in use as the current Bearsden Primary site. In 1958, the school moved to its current location at Morven Road, where a new games hall and library were recently built. Bearsden Academy is now part of the East Dunbartonshire public-private partnership (PPP) project, which will see the new Bearsden Academy building opened in 2009, on the former site of St Andrews College. The current site will be redeveloped as a housing estate to be known as "Academy Grove" [3].

The main building houses the majority of the core subject departments, including English, Maths, Science, Music, PE and Design & Technology. Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS), Art, and Geography are taught in the "New" Building, which was built around 1970. Biology, Business Management and Social Sciences are taught in the nine annexes to the school. The main building also houses the school offices, Assembly Hall, Canteen and two gymnasia, with the new library having been added in 2003. Before building work began for the housing estate, the school had 2 gravel pitches and 2 grass pitches.
