Beaded Hope is a project of Child Wellness Fair, Inc., a US-based, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.[1] It was started in 2005.
Beaded Hope employs women in Mamelodi, South Africa who are impacted by HIV and AIDS. The organization imports the women's handmade bead work of jewelry, accessories and Christmas décor, and sells it in the United States through stores and its own website.
The women employed have limited job prospects because of their HIV status or because of the level of poverty in their community.[citation needed] This employment provides the women with income to feed their families and buy critical medication. Beaded Hope funnels profits back into the community to the local AIDS Hospice.
